A Closer Look at Haruka Sawamura’s Dance-Oriented Battle System in Yakuza 5

After four major numbered installments in the Yakuza series alongside an appearance during the zombie outbreak of Kamurocho, Haruka Sawamura is set to become a playable character in Yakuza 5. Having moved to Osaka, she is now training to become an idol and win the Princess League Idol Contest. Of course, unlike the brawling battle system the other four main characters share, she has to take part in dance battles.

While out and about town, Haruka will be approached and/or can approach other idol style dancers and challenge them to battle. The battle system itself is reminiscent of most similar rhythm games on the market, where you hit notes using specific button presses. As with the games other battle system, you will be able to perform Dance Heart moves which allows her to perform special moves and win the hearts of the random NPC generated crowd who (if you do will enough) will call her the victor.

Yakuza 5 (Known in Japan as Ryu Ga Gotoku 5: Yume Kanaeshi Mono | 龍が如く5 夢、叶えし者) is slated for release in Japan by the end of this year. There is no word yet on if Sega will be releasing an English localization as they have other titles in the series.
