The official website for the upcoming feature film Okami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, or in English The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki unveiled a brand new 50 second trailer a short while ago. This is the latest film being created by Mamoru Hosoda who has been behind other films including Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, both of which have been on the recieving and nomination end of many prestige Japanese film awards. While I don’t think the trailer at least showcases as high a level of design as his other titles, I think the story sounds more heartwarming.
Hana is a 19 year old student who falls in a “fairy-tale like” love with a ‘wolf man’, over the course of the 13 year story Hana gives birth to two children – older sister Yuki, and younger brother Ame or ‘Snow and Rain’. At first the family quietly lives in city trying to hide their wolf heritage, but when the ‘wolf man’ suddenly dies Hana makes the decision to move to a rural town, far from their previous city life.
Mamoru Hosoda was behind the original story and screenplay and is also acting as the director of the film. Other team members include Satoko Okudera (Co-wrote Screenplay), Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Character Designs), Takaaki Yamashita (Animation at Studio Chizu), Hiroshi Ohno (Art Direction) and Seiji Okuda (Executive Producer). I don’t know about you, but there is something really charming about this series.
If you are in Japan from the 21st July, you can see it in the cinemas from then.
