According to a news bulletin by Nikkei in Japan today, we shall be seeings Kazuo Hirai (Currently the Representative Corporate Executive Officer and Execurive Deputy President of the Sony Corporation) step up to the plate and take on the role of President of Sony beginning from April while the current president Howard Stringer will drop his president role and remain chairman and CEO of the corporation.
Apparently Sony will finalize this at a board meeting during February. This also follows on from a rather troubling year in some aspects to the company including the Playstation Network being hacked resulting in the PSN Network being down for a month, a slump in their TV sales and more uncontrollable events such as the Japanese earthquake and tsunami in the earlier months of 2011.
EDIT: Bloomberg Businessweek reports this decision has not be made on whether Kazuo Hirai will be promoted to this role or not, according to an email from company spokesman Shiro Kambe.
