The other day Square Enix unveiled some new screenshots for their upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. These screenshots have to not only two with the normal gameplay, but have a focus on the Disney Fantasia (Symphony of Sorcery), The World Ends With You Traverse Town and Tron Legacy Worlds, as well as the occasional hints to other previously announced worlds.
Also included were a few new screenshots for recently announced Dream Eaters including the Nightmare DE’s Obake Piero (Ghoul Clown) which upon licking you can paralyze you for a short period of time and Hasami Kuwagata (Scissor Beetle) which is about guarding and long range attacks. On the other side of the spectrum, the friendly spirit DE’s unveiled are the Handsome Pegasus which attacks foes with the magical power of wind and the Tsunoceratops which attacks with its big horns atop its head. Also unveiled are special “Link Attacks” which allows you to perform a special attack using your spirit dream eater upon filling a gauge. Have two DE’s in your party? You can do a dual link for additional power.
You might be wondering why there were comic book style artwork included in the screenshot batch? Turns out this is an example of the new Reality Shift system which are world-specific skills which as the example provided in the screenshots below for the Country of the Musketeers “Wonder Comic”.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance is due for release at the end of March 2012 by Square Enix in Japan. While we don’t have a finalized release date for it internationally, both Square Enix (North America and Europe) and Namco Bandai Partners (Australia and New Zealand) have picked the title up for release. It is at the moment, a Nintendo 3DS exclusive. This writer is still wondering when we will ever see a release of Kingdom Hearts 3 on a non-portable console.
