It is perfectly understandable if some people are cautious towards Final Fantasy XIII-2 as from looking at the general consensus, Final Fantasy XIII was a very pretty game but also ended up very bland in terms of gameplay and linearity. Fortunately, it seems that Square Enix have recognized the need for people to get hands on experience from the comfort of their own home instead of standing at a booth or just purchasing the game and hoping for the best. Therefore, Square Enix and Namco Bandai Partners (Depending on where you live) will be making available a demo of the game which from the sounds of it is the same one they have been trialing at conventions. The Playstation Network version will be up on the 10th January in North America and the 11th January for PAL regions, while the XBox Live version will also be released on the 11th January irrespective of where you live.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII featuring two new playable characters (Noel and Serah), a slightly improved battle system, brand new plot, less linearity and most importantly… the ability to jump! If you enjoy the demo, you can pick up the release in late January if you reside in North America or very early February if you live in PAL regions. The Japanese release has been available since the middle of December and has been met with a greater reception than the original release of XIII.
