Are you one of those people who feel that gaming is getting a bit too easy? A person who feels that games are too linear without any consequence of your actions? Turns out the people at Irrational Games and 2K Games heard your cries and have decided to opt to bring back the good ol’ days with their freshly announcement 1999 mode. While I would consider going back a little bit further in time than 1999 (Games were much harder earlier on in the decade), this mode is set to feature difficulty tweaks that will differ the gameplay experience from the normal modes.
The gamer is set to face more permanent and troubling consequences of their decisions through the gameplay… as to how extensive these decisions will be has yet to be revealed. There will also be a specialization system which may mean that using certain weapons or skills will be impossible or at a reduced ability alongside demanding weapon, power and health management and no respawn system.
This style of game system has only been visited in a relatively small number of games the last few years, with the only real similar games being Demons Souls and Dark Souls which while not being hard in their own right, rewarded being careful while punishing the gamer with hidden enemies, near-impossible to beat enemies and a complex world to navigate (Among other things).
