Beware The XBox.com Bug That My Result in Unwanted Purchases

You would be justified in thinking that downloading a demo of a game would not result in a purchase of the game right? Gaming website GiantBomb has recently reported on a bug which changes all that and makes something that is free – not so free…. infact it may result in having the expensive game downloaded instead with you footing the bill due to a bug with the site. One of the uses of the XBox.com Marketplace is to be able to queue items using non-Xbox devices in order to get them directly downloaded the moment you boot up your console… but you should be wary for the next couple of days at least.

As the video above explains, if you are not logged into XBox.com, select “Try Game” on a title in the Marketplace then login, the system switches you over to “Buy” instead giving you the option to “Confirm Purchase”. Clicking on this button will obviously charge your account for the full game as if you just made the purchase.

Fortunately, GiantBomb contacted Microsoft about the issue and were given word that the web team was working on a solution to resolve this issue. So yes… for the next couple of days either download demos directly from your consoles or be very very careful about what you do in the online store.
