Having recently announced their acquisition of Gungnir which they intend to distribute on the Playstation Portable from the 12th June 2012, I was not expecting for them to announce this for a while if not ever…. but today ATLUS USA announced their intentions of publishing Growlanser -Wayfarer of Time on the Playstation Portable sometime during the Summer gaming season.
Never before released outside of Japan and widely considered the best entry in the long running franchise, this PSP system iteration of the fourth chapter in the Growlanser saga details a land – one rich with culture and technology – was long ago nearly obliterated by evanscent diving entities. Two millennia later, the mysterious entities appear again and threaten to bring an end to all things unless the group of heroes rise up and stop it.
The English release of this game includes a long list of improvements and additions over the original game including new characters, scenarios and events are complemented by dramatically improved loading times and a message skip option that allows players to advance the story at a faster pace. The press release hints that there is around 40+ hours of narrative with over 40 unique endings.
However something important to note is that while the PSP versions many cutscenes would be fully voiced, the remainder of the game would not include any Japanese or English dubbing. The Japanese track was denied due to licensing restrictions while the hefty content of the games script is proving to be one of their biggest localization projects in their two decade history and therefore was too expansive to record a new dub track.
Below I have included the first set of screenshots released by ATLUS USA for the game:
