AnimeNewsNetwork today announced that John Sirabella, CEO of the Anime Distributor Media Blasters confirmed with them that they had laid off around 60% of their staff – going from fifteen regular employees to just five or six. The company will however ask former employees to continue working for them on a freelance basis, but how many of them have/will accepted that offer is yet unknown. Unlike Bandai Entertainment however where they completely dropped most of their staff and stopped distribution of new anime/manga titles, Media Blasters claim business is as usual and will release the same number of titles as they previously have. You can read more including comments from the companies CEO on ANN’s article HERE.

Media Blasters are the veterans of the industry, having released a number of anime and manga titles since their opening in 1997, as well as adult titles through their Kitty Media division. Some of their more notable works include dubbed versions of Kanokon, Squid Girl, Figure 17, Genshiken and Kujibiki Unbalance as well as a number of subtitled releases including Dojin Work and Simoun.
