Laputa: Castle in the Sky is a 1986 animated feature film (and the first film) by the highly acclaimed Studio Ghibli. Over the last few years it has been re-released on DVD and Blu-ray, with my review of the Blu-ray version in May getting a score of A-. On the 9th December 2011, there was a Japanese television screening of the film around Japan – and it seems to have caught the eye of Japans many tweeters. Impressively, they managed to break the Twitter tweets per second (TPS) record by more than double the original score held by Beyonce’s MTV pregnancy announcement of 8,868 tweets. A total of 25,088 tweets per second were made, a new Twitter record and unfortunately a little bit off tripling the original record.
