Naughty Dog’s Next Game is “The Last of Us” for the Playstation 3

Is the market ready for yet another zombie series? Is the market ready for yet another post-apocalyptic storyline? Well it turns out Naughty Dog (Developers of series including Uncharted, Jak and Daxter and the original Crash Bandicoot games) don’t think so with their recent announcement and debut trailer of The Last of Us, due for release on the Playstation 3 at a date to be determined in 2012. While information about this game is scarce, the trailer does provide us with a bit of information – including that there will at least be two main characters – a young girl named Ellie who favours a pocket knife and a man named Joel (Her father? A Friend?) who is the one who primarily does the fighting all in the name of protecting her. They are two of the few survivors of the modern plague which seems to turn people into zombies…. however the facial mutations of the zombies shown in the trailer indicate more than just your ordinary zombie designs.

Neil Druckmann (Director – Uncharted 2: Among Thieves) and studio game director Bruce Straley will be behind the development of this game. As mentioned above, this is currently slated to be a Playstation 3 exclusive (So published by Sony Computer Entertainment as Uncharted was?) with a release date of sometime in 2012. The big question is… will this be more cinematic/storyline driven like Uncharted or will it be more gameplay focused like their other titles?
