Unless you have confined yourself to an endless online game session for the last year or so and have not bothered to check any console related gaming news, you will no doubt be aware that the Playstation Vita, the next portable console from the folks at Sony is due out in February 2012. BUT for those lucky folks in Japan, they have managed to get their hands on the Playstation Vita this month and has so far seen strong sales which puts it at odds with other cheaper, perhaps more family oriented portable gaming consoles.
According to Japanese gaming website Famitsu, who sourced the data from Enterbrain – the Playstation Vita sold 321,407 units over the period of last weekend (It was released on Saturday), which puts it almost at odds with the Nintendo 3DS that sold 371,326 units between the 26-27th February 2011, and more than double the first day sales of Sony’s original Playstation Portable console.
With a strong lineup of 100+ titles due for release within the launch window, it is quite possible that this console may be taking the top spot for a fair while in Japan, and quite possibly in other markets once it is released.
