.hack//The Movie to Be the Most Visually Stimulating .hack Animated Feature Yet!

The .hack series gas gone a long way since its original anime release with .hack//Sign and the .hack//Game, not only in terms of storyline but even more so in visual eye candy (For those who want to see an example of the original designs, I will post trailers below). .hack.//The Movie is the next instalment in the series, this time as a full movie-length feature film which will make use of CG animation with 3D character designs. This story takes place in the year 2024 (4 years after .hack//Link) where most youth have now lived in a world interconnected by networks – a true technological era. While main character Sora Yuuki has no interest in “trivial” games such as The World, it turns out that certain abnormalities of the game start affecting the real world, forcing her to join (As all heroes in this series seem to be noobs) and save the world.

The director of this project is Hiroshi Matsuyama who has worked on every title in the R:2 and R:X era of games (.hack//Roots to now), the writer is Kazunori Ito and as you may expect, CyberConnect2 is responsible for the animation. You can check this out if you are in Japan from the 21st January 2012. No word on if or when there will be an international release.
