ATLUS have quite a lot running in its favor for Persona 4: The Golden which could see strong sales for both ATLUS and Sony (in terms of sales for the Vita). The Shin Megami Tensei has always been successful inside and outside of Japan, however no title has quite matched the standard that Persona 4 has internationally with strong sales of he games and increased interest in the ongoing anime series (Which was quickly snapped up in most regions around the world). ATLUS of course do not intend on just re-releasing the same game on the console but doing a number of changes to keep the plot fresh. Over the last couple of days, Famitsu has hinted at a number of changes to the game including:
- Two characters are able to do a simultaneous attack resulting in stronger damage (This doesn’t seem to affect the all-out attack which is when all four characters attack the same enemy).
- The group will go on a skiing trip for the course of several days and will therefore do battle in winter clothing and have plot relating to that added. Interestingly enough, the Playstation 2 version of the game had a time jump between Christmas and the protagonists final days in Aprilish, so I wonder if they will be opening up all those months for further plot development.
- There will be further difficulty settings to give those who want to enjoy the story more than the challenge a chance to do so.
- The potential for characters such as Yosuke and Chie to have advanced Persona evolutions including Takehaya Susanoo (Yosuke) and Haraedo no Ookami (Chie), indicating a potential change in how the social link system functions with playable characters.
- “Everyone’s Voice”, a brand new system where you can view what other gamers did on the specific in-game day, offering you a chance to find secrets or even just to salvage a day where it looks like there is nothing to do.
- They will be including more than just maid outfits as new battle outfits, some of the other new costumes including cosplay outfits.
- Rescue Request – an already announced feature where other players can jump into your universe and save your backside in a pinch.
It so far looks to be a very promising game, and I eagerly await the email from ATLUS USA stating they have acquired the series and will also be releasing it in 2012.
