The Next Installment in the RPG Maker Franchise is…. RPG Maker VX Ace

As a long time user of the RPG Maker XP series (Yes, I converted to the legitimate English release once it was released), my original impressions of RPG Maker VX were to completely ignore it as they chose to alter the customiser friendly interface to a more idiot proof system and turning the sprite-based graphics from semi-realistic to chibi. While I was half expecting the next installment to be titled RPG Maker 7 (Well we have had XP, VistaX so might as well go with 7), the new release is titled RPG Maker VX Ace and is due out on the 15th December 2011 on the PC.

Some of the improvements include party members that follow you, TP as a battle parameter (In lieu of always using MP) and greater environment and character portrait/sprite customisation. Nothing that you could not code yourself – but it is most certainly an improvement over the original. Will I give up on RPG Maker XP however…. I have my doubts.
