My Thoughts on Habbo Hotel Today

Guess what! Check out “From the Desk of Sam” to read more opinionated articles on not only games such as this, but science and many other ramblings from my mind! But don’t worry, The Otaku’s Study will remain 100% active – just needed somewhere to vent my off-topic thoughts!

So it is currently 2:39 in the morning and for some reason I am unable to sleep. Instead of catching some Z’s, I decided to go through a folder on my old external hard-drive that I hadn’t accessed in a while and came up with an old website source for a website known as Habboish.net, a number of my old screenshots and the like (Which I might post up later).

habbo 1 My Thoughts on Habbo Hotel Today

Habbo Hotel, released by Sulake is a virtual social networking site for teens where you can meet up with people, create your own custom rooms, play games with other members… and two things that especially come to mind…. spread the word of user safety and the much memorable fansite wars. For me and my mates who were at the time…. 13 when the Australian version of the hotel finally opened, it was a chance to set our foot on it and claim hotel domination – which sort of worked.

habbo 2 My Thoughts on Habbo Hotel Today

The game was good while it lasted, as it was back in the day where Facebook was not around / was locked to only university students, and as it was during the Habbo Australia todays, we were what you would have considered a tight-nit community where you were bound to walk into a room and have someone recognise you. I am not sure about the community now as they have recently merged all English-speaking hotels into one but I still maintain that it lost its charm of a group of friends sitting around a virtual space talking about their worries, instead replacing it with a muddle of people asking if a random stranger wants to be their bf/gf, virtually adopt et cetera.

Despite this, I wouldn’t call it a bad site to have your teens on for example, it is sufficiently moderated from past experience, and the recent merge should give 24 hour modding, whereas in the past 3AM in the morning was hardly modable at all. There is also much more to do from my last actual activity on there, such as Battleball, and many in-room and public room activities. There is a moderate risk of losing your furniture or such from a scam (Which are still prevalent as with all games for that age group), but your main concern should be the phone bill…. The number of people I saw use credit after credit to give themselves more coins to develop rooms were astounding. That and a possible addiction….

Anyway, I am glad I had the chance to close the game off from my life…. after many years of just not logging on…. time to make a false FREE FURNI room now?…. KIDDING!…. maybe.
