I am aware that this may be considered adding salt to the wounds of some who would love to see this Blu-ray set released in Australia. However Sentai Filmworks have just informed me that starting from today, you will be able to pick up a Blu-ray copy of Clannad (Season One) from either a supplier of anime or an online retailer (Eg. Rightstuf) at an SRP of $89.98. Running at 600 minutes in length and featuring both the Sentai Filmworks English dub and the original Japanese dub, you will be able to follow Tomoya Okazaki as he goes from a teenage delinquent to someone who both enjoys school-life and helps others with their problems.
Tortured by his past and pained by an uncertain future, Tomoya drifts through life with an almost overwhelming anger and emptiness. But when he meets the mysterious, charming and shy Nagisa, his world seems to change. Drawn in by her gentle but lonely spirit, he begins to experience the joy life can bring. But as he discovers the reason for his newfound friend’s loneliness, Tomoya also finds that life can be frighteningly fragile. Poignant. Compelling. Heartbreaking. Clannad is one of the most cherished anime of all time. And now it’s available for the first time in beautiful, high-definition clarity.
Of course, at this is a region-locked Blu-ray disc you will not be able to play this title in Australia and Siren Visual (Distributors of the series in Australia) have stated many times that they have no plans to release it at this time. For those in North America or another country that it retails… any comments on the quality you would care to share?
