For a number of years now, Bond University’s School of Social Communication and Media, alongside the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association have released a Digital Australia report, which looks at gamers around Australia – identifying trends among us and determining groups of people more likely to play games, prevalence et cetera. Authored by Jeffrey E. Brand, someone who looking at his qualifications definitely knows the field of gaming, has covered I think almost all (if not all) the important statistical information needed about gamers in Australia. I will go through the full report in the next day or so – however here are some very interesting facts as taken from the key findings report:
- 95% of homes with children under the age of 18 have a device for playing computer games.
- Females make up 47% of the total game population, up from 46% in 2008.
- The average age of video game players in Australia is 32 years, up from 30 in 2008.
- 75% of gamers in Australia are aged 18 years or older (Without a doubt something to consider for an 18+ Classification).
- The average adult gamer has been playing video games for 12 years, 26% have been playing for more than 20.
- 57% of all gamers play either daily or every other day.
