Binary Domain – No More Following the Leader

When you think about it, in games where you are forced to be the leader of the team, the other members will almost certainly blindly follow your every order even if it is of detriment to the entire team – hell, thinking of one example… with the exception of Persona 3, every other game in the series required you to issue orders which may or may not lead to your imminent death or say…. the .hack// games which have you ordering the individual party members and they will obey without question (Hey, I don’t play many shooter games okay?).

Binary Domain, a game due out in February 2012 which is being developed by the newly formed Yakuza Studio attempts to take the next step in making AI more realistic by adding a Trust system. As a tactical third-person shooter game you are tasked with leading a team of squad members with you on missions, but how useful this system will be will be determined how well you play the game, socialize and give orders – which may result in being a detriment to your gaming experience. For example, if you lead your squad members continuously into imminent death – they will ignore you and will not object to leaving you uncovered and easily killed but if you have high trust through showing skill – you will have a helpful squad which will follow orders and (hopefully) lead you to victory.
