Are you attending the EB Expo this October? Do you like music? Are you interested in something a bit different? The EB Expo staff have recently been previewing one of their attractions – Fanmade Pocket Music. The official blurb for it is below:
For those unaware there is a musical movement bleeping about in underground venues across the world called Chiptunes. It is that classic 8bit sound that everybody associates with retro videogames. The modern Chiptune movement is about musicians embracing and celebrating the sounds from old video game hardware in a new context. This event presented by Pocket Music at EB Expo is set to bring some of Australia’s finest video game enthused musicians for a one off unforgettable show.
The Line Up:
Rubijaq (Brisbane) is one of the newest members of Australia’s Chiptune community; wielding nothing more than a single Nintendo Gameboy he sculpts large bass heavy sounds for the dancefloor.
VGX (Brisbane) is another Gameboy Musician but also has regularly played about as a DJ. He fuses his DJ skills with Gameboy music to create grooving house and techno with an 8bit soul.
Pselodux (Melbourne) is an amalgam of video game inspired sounds, everything from fast shmup style melodies to thumping sci-fi drum’n’bass topped with wailing 8bit solos from a special synth guitar.
Derris-Kharlan (Melbourne) this artist creates massively epic VGM tunes that would fit right in on that RPG you never got around to finishing. At this event he will debut his performance of a medley of reworked Metroid songs as well as some originals.
Dot.AY (Brisbane) is one of the pioneers and original advocates of Chiptune in Australia, his music aims to transcend the small nostalgic sounds of the Gameboy to create massive roaring tracks in a style he calls Chipbass.
Technodrome (Melbourne) are a four-piece band that decided to combine their love of video games and music to quickly become Australia’s leading dedicated video game/nerd-culture music band.
7bit Hero (Brisbane) is a real-life interactive band video game. While the band is playing onstage (and pretending to be awesome), you can log in using your mobile phone and play along with the beat. You can even destroy the band and force them into Game Over mode

This is not the only FANMADE attraction, with others including “An 8-Bit Collection” and “Fanmade Exhibitors such as Qantm College”. Not only is the event about the games, but also about the other things behind it and education.
