[Sam Recommends] Stop Australian Vaccination Network (Non-Otaku Obviously)

As I have mentioned before, whilst I am a writer for this site most of the time, I am still a university student currently undertaking my Masters degree in research relating to health – even if I am strongly tempted to do a good ol’ switch-a-roo into an Information Technology or similar degree on the side. However, considering I live in the lower-part of Queensland, I have noticed a considerable rise in the number of pertussis and measles outbreaks over the last few months, and would therefore like to take just a little bit of your time to invite you to consider joining a Facebook group that is rather dear to me.

The Stop Australian Vaccination Network group (Despite the name, SAVN is the pro-vaccine group, AVN is the anti-vaccine), is comprised of a wide variety of people – from doctors to nurses to students to even fields completely unrelated to science. Unfortunately some groups have found the need to misquote and misrepresent research that has been performed and support claims that autism is caused by vaccinations among many others. It is the purpose of SAVN – among other groups, to set the record straight on these claims.

Now, I am not going to suggest joining for the simple fact of going against anti-vaccination groups, as that is only a part of what they do – but if you are a parent or someone who is about to get a vaccination and are interested about it or alternatively, have any queries about it, you will find that they can point you in the right direction to get unbiased assistance. Of course, nothing beats the quality of care provided by a General Practitioner or other Medical Practitioner.
