Personally, this is not a series I would buy as it does not conform to my interests in a game. HOWEVER, it seems like that doesn’t even matter thanks to the good ol’ Australian Government Classifications Operations Branch. Whilst we are on the dawn of probably seeing an R18+ rating drafted any week now, they have still found it right to give just a few more games that R18+ score… one of them being… The House of the Dead Overkill: Extended Cut.
However, hope is not lost yet. SEGA Australia have announced their intention to appeal this decision, and to set across their belief that this series only deserves an MA15+ rating at best, which from what I have seen is personally what I would give the title. Managing Director Darren Macbeth had this comment about the Governments decision: “There are far worse titles currently available in the marketplace which involve more than shooting down mutants in humorous circumstances. We will do everything we can to prove that House of the Dead: Overkill is worthy of an MA15+ rating in Australia.”
SEGA Australia…. as a gamer, I wish you all the best in your appeal!
