.hack// is a franchise that can never seem to end. Originally released as .hack//Sign in 2002, this series has spawned a number of video game and anime series which follow a group of characters in an online game called The World (and later The World R:2 and The World R:X) which usually has at least one of the characters or a group of characters thrown into a coma or trapped within the game through some event or another in which the other characters go and save them. I was originally introduced to the series through the first game released, .hack//Infection – and have since then watched most of the anime series and played the two sets of PS2 games. It honestly surprises me how they have continued the games, as whilst I have enjoyed all of them and praise them for their originality, they have never been AS well received.
However, the series once again revives in what is only known as .hack//TheMovie which takes place in the year 2024, several years after the last title in the series – .hack//Link if memory serves me right. Whilst it seems that almost every man, woman and child have been connected to this game, the hero main 14 year old hero Sora Yuki has only just been introduced to the game and of course, chose the Kite character design – only this time with a more yellow tinge to the outfit. I am interested to see what they can do to improve on what has been previously done, considering the last game involved almost every character from every game/anime series.
