SEGA overviews the last 20 Years of Sonic

Back before I was a game, back before we had the consoles that were capable of doing 3D gaming, let alone having the variety of games to place your allegiances towards… there was only one fanboy war that stood up and went into full force… the battle between a plumber and a blue hedgehog. Representing the consoles released by Nintendo and SEGA respectively and well before they put aside their differences to take part in the Olympic Games…. and the Winter Olympics…. and another Summer Olympics, most people I know still had their preference: Mario or Sonic. As they were both side-scrolling platformers, one focusing more on jumping on blocks and taking the most effective means out (Mario) and one focusing on getting through the level as quick as possible, each of these games had a strong backing.

Twenty years on from this event and several generations forward, both series are going surprisingly well. Sonic the Hedgehog has just hit the 20 year Anniversary mark and has the next game in the series, trying to keep the 3D aesthetics it has developed the last ten years, but also trying to go back to the side-scrolling roots.

I digress, take a look at the above video and take a walk down memory lane and see how one ever aging hedgehog who has spanned over several game series on several consoles and several cartoon series/movies can still keep going on, as well as a tired old Doctor who still cannot learn it is impossible to beat Sonic (At least Bowser took a break occasionally…. even if it was just for Tennis or Golf).
