MangaGamer – Kara no Shoujo! [ADULT]

I haven’t really had a chance to do much on Visual Novels in the past, as there have been no mainstream english distribution channels and therefore the only ones I have really been able to review are a few KEY titles alongside Higurashi/Umineko which I purchased in Japanese. However, I have decided that I will be updating on Visual Novel releases by the company Manga Gamer, a distributor of both Adult and Non-Adult Visual Novel titles. I am aware this title has been released for approximately a week now, however I only recently decided to not differentiate between Adult and Non-Adult VN titles. Whilst I will not be reviewing 18+ titles at this time, for those who are interested, read on.

Do note however that Manga Gamer also has an all-ages visual novel section that sells titles such as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Kai), Da Capo and other All-Age series.

STORY
March, 1956.
Tokyo; a metropolis finally starting to recover ten long years after Japan’s defeat in the War. Private eye Tokisaka Reiji accepts a strange request from a girl in Inokashira Park.

“I want you to look for something. Me. My true self.”

Meanwhile, a series of bizarre murders is plaguing the area, one where young women are disappearing, only to turn up dead and maimed with their wombs torn out. Seeking assistance on the case, Detective Uozumi Kyoko called up his old friend and former co-worker, Reiji.

Ouba Girls Academy; a school on the outskirts of Hoya City. Reiji’s little sister attends this school, where two young women have mysteriously vanished. Saeki Tokio, the vice principal, calls in Reiji to investigate their disappearance, giving him his third case. Reiji infiltrates the academy as a substitute teacher to glean information from the students—but that’s when he meets her once again. Kuchiki Toko—his first client, the girl who asked him to search for her true self. Her manner is distinctly boyish as she remarks:

“Heya – so we meet again, Mr. Detective.”

The body count continues to rise. What should be a simple search for some students is starting to grow out of control. For some reason, the number of missing people and unidentified bodies don’t match up. Who will be chosen as the next victim? My Thoughts

I am only going from a blurb here, but the storyline actually sounds very intriguing and has a sort of Higurashi-esque tone to it, especially as the mystery genre has been one of interest to me since I first viewed the Higurashi anime series all those years back. As the age warning states, it is a hentai but I do wonder how much interaction you get with the game to determine the killer, or if it will be a linear game. There were some screenshots included with the press release which can be seen below (Minus the couple of blatant hentai ones – sorry) which show that this is a dark supernatural mystery series.
