Mario Party 9 (Wii) – Get Ready to Party Again!

Whilst I was going to include this in my first E3 summary due out today, as I have stated many times before, I am a big fan of the Mario Party series, with my and my family dedicating no doubt hundreds of hours into playing the game on nights we have nothing to do or have a guest over to be our fourth victim player. With it having been many a year since Mario Party 8 came out, during the youthful days of the Nintendo Wii, and a rather disappointing Mii Party, it is good to see they have figured out what works and gone to release a new game. Whilst there isn’t much information on this title besides this trailer, let alone a official release date, there are a few things that both interest and concern me. First off, it seems like at least in some levels, the characters travel together around the map, which gives it less of a board game feeling to it which is disappointing (No more fights among players on who reaches the star first?), possibly getting stars just by landing on spaces (Not too sure about this either).

EDIT: On closer observation of the trailer, it seems that the characters travelling around together is only limited to some levels, if not one level only.

However, when all is said and done, the other key feature of this series, the Mini-games, are out in full force, with a number of creative mini-games apparently available in this game, and I look forward to playing them all. Regardless of how this game turns out, this will be a first day purchase for me, and hopefully after 8 brilliant games in the series, they keep up the tradition and make it 9 great games in a row!
