Anime is a media medium that can be enjoyed by those of all ages, from the murderous mysteries of When they Cry (Siren Visual) to the kid-friendly series such as Magical Meow Meow Taruto (Bandai Entertainment)
It has been posted on the Madman Facebook wall as well as the Madboards last week about an interview conducted on the ABC National Radio on their segment “The Philosopher’s Zone”. This is actually a radio segment from the 16th October 2010 however seems to suddenly have arisen again. The blurb is as follows:
Japanese animation is not just for children. It can be dark, incredibly violent and sexually explicit. But does it represent a distinctly Japanese worldview? And is it philosophical? Yes and yes, according to Jane Goodall from the University of Western Sydney.
To be honest, I am not one for a generalized debate on the philosophy of anime, since anime, just like any other media genre, is way too broad to generalize, even with the number of anime titles I own myself I do not think I have even cracked the surface of owning every potential genre of series. However, for those who have interest in this sort of thing, you may enjoy watching this radio session. At the very least, you get to hear some anime songs and voice clips from the older anime series such as Kimba: The White Lion. If you would like to, please feel free to share your thoughts on the radio clip, which goes for a little less then half an hour.
