Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor

Personally, I am not a big Nintendo DS gamer, however there has been a number of decent games released for the system such as my all time portable-exclusive favourite The World Ends With You. The whole 3D system is not something I am going to throw my big dollars at for what at this time, seems like an initial hype that will just die down after a few months. Therefore I claim that Devil Survivor could be one of the best DS games I shall try out until the good games come out post-3DS. The Shin Megami Tensei series is my favourite game series, so this better not let me down.

To be honest, I chose this because I had a voucher to use that was going to expire otherwise, therefore I decided to add this to my “Higurashi/Umineko shelf on my bookcase”. I have never been a collector of the figurines, often opting to not get more expensive collectors editions of games for just a figure (Eg. Assassins Creed II where I waited a month and got the game at $AUD 60 instead of the normal price well within the hundreds. So yes, chances of me starting a figurine collection? An anime store opened up nearby with a few figurines for sale so it is possible that you could be seeing more of them o_o. Now if only I could get my hands on a mamachapp (ママチャップ) figurine….. Somehow I have my doubts on that.

Finally, the last item I purchased and the reason I actually bothered purchasing the items in the first place WAS for some PSP screen protectors, since the last ones I bought…. met a terrible fate when a certain air bubble got to me….

Also on the note of the PSP, my review for Persona 3 Portable should be available some time today.

You’re wrong, Infinite Space is way better than Devil Survivor I played both, both games are quite visual novels like and although Devil Survivor gives you a more control over the course of the story, Infinite Space is more of a grown up war story, reflected on how Yuri changed from a typical bishounen into a badass scarred man.

To me the most memorable moment in Infinite Space is when Yuri the man blow up Eremon’s Battle Ship with an almost cold and ruthless manner. Consider how Eremon killed Yuri’s first love, he got what he deserved, and here’s where Yuri distanced himself from all those shounen heroes type in Japanese medias.

Oooh! I have seen that title before but never really considered it, I will have to check it out when I get some more $’s, since it does sound quite interesting. Cheers for that Ragnar

Gotta warn you though, first half of the story is quite lame with Yuri the Bishounen. It only gets interesting when Yuri’s first love died and Yuri grows up. And combat can be frustratingly hard at times when you don’t know what to do. This is the kind of RPG that you can die in 10 seconds in a boss fight, or you can win in 10 seconds.

Good, I love the games like this, it is what made Demons Souls such a great game, you could die in a 1HKO with a boss but if you played your cards right it was a cinch… least until the game got smart and didnt tell you there was an archer right behind you D=.

Ugh, doesnt sound promising but the gameplay hopefully makes up for it…. right?

Well, first half of the game story is lame, but the second half is amazing (minus the last boss). Gameplay during first half is rather restricted though, especially first 10 hours. But everything just gets better and better after that, and event battle/boss battle gets more and more complicated but fun. See, what is best about Infinite Space’s gameplay is customisation and you don’t get much option at the beginning, but once you get to the second half of the game it’s a blast.

And to be honest, I don’t know why all the anime trailers focus on Yuri the Bishounen, when it’s Yuri the Man is the kickass part. Don’t judge the game from the anime trailers, those are the worst parts of the game story.
