Over the rest of the month, I am planning on evaluating animes from 2007 as well as others from previous years in many different categories. The first category I am planning on evaluating is anime opening themes. Each day or so, I will be reviewing a different category.
10. 1000% Sparking
Series: Negima!?
Singers: Class 3A, Negi, Nekane, Anya
Review: This opening theme astounded me as I personally thought nothing could beat the previous Negima anime opening but it was a nice surprise to see the many different versions of the song just like the previous series. The small changes made progressively throughout the series made it appealing to watch the opening to see if there were different graphics added or a different cluster of students singing. Unfortunately, this would be ranked higher if more animation versions were used.
9. Mahou Shoujo Magical Tan
Series: Moetan
Singers: Tamura Yukari, Tomatsu Haruka, Nazuka Kaori
Review: This song appeals to me thanks to the cheerful and catchy theme that is used throughout it. Also, the graphics quality is very good for an opening, but of course for an anime that tries to act cute and all that, it does suit it quite well. This also played as an ending theme for a few episodes.
8. Naraku no Hana
Series: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai
Singers: Shimamiya Eiko
Review: First of all, I would like to recall what I wrote first off in my first episode review of the series.
“Quite a nice quiet OP, still cant say I would go out and buy it but quite good animation!” Interestingly enough, I did end up getting the whole song and I really enjoyed it, even if it was a little bit soft for me. The animation changed half way through which looked even better with a creepy Hanyuu image and for a while, was my avatar on the Granado Espada Forums.
7. Joint
Series: Shakugan no Shana II
Singers: Mami Kawada
Review: I thought this opening theme was fitting for the series with it sounding more series in both tone and in the animation. As I personally haven’t watched any more than the first episode for this series, I cannot say much about it in regards to the series but it is a nice song.
6. Kokoro no Tamago
Series: Shugo Chara
Singers: Buono!
Review: Keeping this opening in a few words, it is one of the best songs I have heard for an anime that is aimed at younger age groups. The rhythm of this song seems to attract me into watching it every time I sit down and watch an episode of it. I also must quickly add that I have not forgotten reviewing Shugo Chara but instead I completely forgot about it.
5. A Happy Life
Series: Manabi Straight
Singers: Megumi Hayashibara
Review: I found this as a personal favourite in my song collection for months after hearing it. The cheerfulness really reinstates what this anime is about and the animation is quite funny, after all, what school would see all their student council members graffiting the school building? Also must admit, the graphics style used makes everything look prettier.
4. Seishoujo Ryouiki
Series: Rozen Maiden: Traumend
Singers: ALI PROJECT
Review: This was the song that reinstated my faith in ALI Project after their song that will be mentioned later. The song itself is pretty much a dark themed song which as I have stated before, gives the series a false impression of being like this animation which it is the complete opposite. Some parts of it also link back to the series in some parts.
3. Romantic Summer
Series: Seto no Hanayome
Singers: Sun&Lunar
Review: I didn’t really enjoy watching the series Seto no Hanayome and as such, I only watched one episode out of the 26. However, this opening theme is a complete work of genius. The song is not only excellent but the animation is very hilarious. Something about a mafia playing in a band and then attacking a member is very appealing.
2. Kinjirareta Asobi
Series: Rozen Maiden
Singers: ALI PROJECT
Review: For a long time, this used to be my number 1 favorite opening until another song came along. The song is definitely one of the ones I listed to the most on my ipod and as with Traumend, it has the same flaw of giving a false impression of what the anime is about, but once again, it is still a brilliant sound although I do wish there was more Suiseseki!
1. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Series: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
Singers: Shimamiya Eiko
Review: When I started watching this series around 5 months ago, I had no idea any song could take over Kinjirareta Asobi as my favorite opening theme but this proved me wrong. I actually sampled a few contacts of mine what they thought of this song when they all listened to it and they all thought it was one of the best they had ever heard. I have no idea why this stands out to me so much but I guess that was the same as the whole anime series. Alot of Rena through which is splendid!
