Gaming Updates – More Reasons to buy a PS3 (Disgaea 3 & SO4)

Disgaea 3 Trailer
For more information,

Despite never have played the first Disgaea game when it was released all those years ago (As it is impossible to find a copy of it in stores in Australia and I have been searching for two years now). The second Disgaea game was a rather welcoming change to the gaming and despite the old style graphics engine, has become one of my favourite games along with other 日本一 games such as “Makai Kingdom” and Phantom Brave.

This series seems to involve an educational theme where young demons will be trained to become perfect overlords which is just want the main character wishes to do. I don’t believe there has been any word on if/who the older characters are that will appear in this series or if this will be a complete standalone game.

“The story is about a young demon called Mao who is the son of the schools chairman and has not attended school once (Making him a good student). His main wish is to become powerful enough to take over from his father and become an all mighty overlord. While he was reading some of his books, he got the inspiration to become a hero which in return would allow him to kill demons and get closer to his goal.

However, a friend of Mao’s called Beryl notices that her title of school delinquent (Meaning she actually appears to class), will be threatened if he achieves his goal. This causes her to stalk him and prevent him from taking her title away.” [Source: Wikipedia]

Some of the new features include

  • Two level toss – Allows the person at the bottom of a character built tower to boost the character at the top to a higher level.
  • Throwing Recieve – Allows a party member to throw a character to another party member and then they can throw that chracter. This can go on and on until the thrown character reaches it’s destination.
  • Demon Morph – Allows an ally monster to morph into a weapon which other characters can use.

Of course, this alone would not convince me to buy a PS3, however last month Square Enix announced that they would be releasing Star Ocean 4, which is the sequel to my favorite game on the PS2. This is supposedly going to feature mote sci-fi features in it which is rumoured to include the ability to fly your own spaceship to different planets (Which would be much better then the teleporting from SO3).

While there hasnt been much word on it yet except for a few images and a few statements, hopefully when it is closer to release, we can finally see what beauty has been made.
