Summary: Keeping this episode simple, they begin with the famous train scene and Najimi goes off to her first book sale in a store, which soon has Hoshi marketing for her. After this, Najimi goes off to meet Hoshi’s brother at the cafe to deal with some paperwork, which she is supposedly “Stabbed in the back” and he disappears with the contract he just forced her into signing (Aka. Forcing her stamp on the paper). The whole group go after him and end up sending him running into a small river.
The last few moments of this episode show the short future for them all with Sora ending up also as a doujin artist (In which we see a small glimpse of her mother), Nido is still attempting to sell her doujins and Najimi/Tsuyuri keep selling doujins at the doujin conventions.
Live Action Summary: Even through I have not been blogging this part of Doujin Work, I thought I might as well give a bit of an overview of what it is about. The live action part is about the voice actresses of Tsuyuri and Sora and they have 12 episodes to complete their own doujins. If they do not complete their doujins by the time the 12th episode has aired, they must cosplay on TV in embarassing costumes for the whole of Japan to see.
Each episode they focused on a different part of their doujin creation as well as answering some questions about what they are doing. They also met different producers of manga and doujins and basically got tips from them.
In the end, they both managed to complete their doujins and they got dressed in Yukatas and announced their doujins for sale to a small crowd of Doujin Work otakus. I am not sure if they will be for sale in Japan but who knows..
I actually really enjoyed the main opening music for this segment also might I add…
Anime Summary: This anime I guess was supposedly just another part to gather interest for the live action part however it was fairly well done. Unfortunately, it should have been made into normal length anime instead of around 15 minutes but it still performed okay for this time limit.
The beginning of the anime was much better than the ending episodes however with a little bit of the humour getting a bit overused by the end of it. Not to say that all of it was bad.
The characters were fairly well planned and focused on many different aspects of what I suppose a new Doujin artist would have to endure.
Najimi: As the main protagonist of the show, she is left to represent the new comer to the trade which made a good character to star in the show rather than someone who is already good at making manga and doujins.
Tsuyuri: The kind and sometimes evil friend who also represents a support network and is always helpful to her friends. But I guess all artists need to have some inspiration to begin their work. Possibly the best character out of this series also.
Justice: The expert/Giraffe man. It was always funny to see a few of the jokes about how tall he was and how it did cause problems.
Sora: I am not sure what to say about her… I can’t imagine someone as young as her being interested in Doujins and all that but it was interesting to see what she would cosplay as in the following episode.
Nidou: All I can say is… “Got to love a rival”
Hoshi: Every time I look at him, I remind myself if “The Sims: Superstar” and how if you were popular enough (or not that popular) he would start following you around. Just like Hoshi would do with Najimi.
The music was also quite good in this series with lots of different tracks which were quite upbeat. Overall… here is my ranking for this series:
Graphics: 3/5
Sound: 4/5
Storyline: 7/10
Overall: 14/20 (B)
