Best and Worst of 2006

This is a little something I thought up at the spur of the moment. I have sadly come across some anime that has been… less that likable over the years… however some good anime has really shined on me so here is my verdict on what the best and worse animes are:

Worst 5
worst Best and Worst of 2006
5. Popotan

1 Best and Worst of 20062 Best and Worst of 20064 Best and Worst of 2006

This series featured a little bit too much fanservice for me. I do not have much time or interest in bath scenes every episode and I would rather see more of a storyline. Bad but definitely not the worst.

4. Binchou-tan

5 Best and Worst of 20067 Best and Worst of 20068 Best and Worst of 2006

Very Very Very Dull, that is all I can say about it

3. Honey and Clover II
(Images coming soon)
This series was definitely not to my liking, I found the story dull and uneventful causing me to give up on the series after one episode.

2. Puni Puni Poemy

9 Best and Worst of 200610 Best and Worst of 200612 Best and Worst of 2006

Okay… I didn’t really understand the whole point of this series and even after expecting something like Excel Saga it still seemed to be a waste of time. Not worth it at all.

1. Jigoku Shoujo

13 Best and Worst of 200615 Best and Worst of 200616 Best and Worst of 2006

So many people enjoy this series for some reason however who would really want to see someone being depressed and condemning themselves to hell just to get revenge? I only watched two episodes of this series and I will never watch it again.

TOP 10

best Best and Worst of 2006

10. Pita Ten

2 Best and Worst of 20063 Best and Worst of 20064 Best and Worst of 2006

This series is a nice soft series featuring good humour and an interesting storyline. The angel/demon structure is hilarious with the angel Misha accidently doing horrible things and the demon Shia being a polite and kind person.

9. .hack//Roots

5 Best and Worst of 20066 Best and Worst of 20068 Best and Worst of 2006

This series carries on from the previous stories with an interesting storyline keeping with the good ol’ .hack tradition of people falling into comas and data bugs
8. Stellvia of the Universe

9 Best and Worst of 200610 Best and Worst of 200612 Best and Worst of 2006

I really enjoyed sitting down and watching this anime recently, a good storyline and a good love relationship constantly being ruined by work ^_^. Perfect for a bit of light humour as well as a fair bit of space fighting!

7. Mahou Sensei Negima

13 Best and Worst of 200614 Best and Worst of 200616 Best and Worst of 2006

This series was really good with a good soundtrack and an interesting storyline. The only fault I found out of the whole series was the ending which they could have made into an extended Kyoto arc rather than what it was.

6. Azumanga Daioh
17 Best and Worst of 200618 Best and Worst of 200619 Best and Worst of 2006

Too put it quite simply, this series is the funniest I have ever seen. It puts Japanese high school in a new perspective with a child as a student as well as a serious one who loves cute things and one who seems to be on the next planet over. Excellent series overall.

5. Chrono Crusade

22 Best and Worst of 200623 Best and Worst of 200624 Best and Worst of 2006

This series is VERY well made series, I enjoyed all the episodes and just like Pita Ten, it shows that not all demons have to be bad. The Chrono/Rosette love is really well developed and the ending is extremely sad although predictable at the beginning of the series. 4. Rozen Maiden Traumend

25 Best and Worst of 200626 Best and Worst of 200627 Best and Worst of 2006

This series is a sequel to the Rozen Maiden series and while it isn’t as good as the first one, it still is an excellent choice on the anime market. The graphics are really good and the soundtrack is the same as the last one.
3. Negima!?

29 Best and Worst of 200630 Best and Worst of 200632 Best and Worst of 2006

This show is basically at the same ranking as Pani Poni Dash however, only one can go ahead and so Negima!? Gets a three. Since this series hasn’t finished yet, it is hard to get an overall ranking however what has been seen already, it puts it up the top. The graphics, soundtrack and Storyline have all improved however I really miss the Magical Battle song from the original :’(.

2. Pani Poni Dash

33 Best and Worst of 200634 Best and Worst of 200636 Best and Worst of 2006

From the makers of Negima!?, this series is a welcome change from all the storyline based animes due to the fact that… there is no storyline at all. Just tonnes and tonnes and tonnes of humour! Each episode is different offering humour and parodies of different things such as other animes/mangas, websites etc.
1. Rozen Maiden

37 Best and Worst of 200638 Best and Worst of 200639 Best and Worst of 2006

Rozen Maiden is currently the best anime I have watched and hasn’t changed its position for years! The storyline is excellent with the whole doll concept unique! Soundtrack is perfect with many nice songs and the graphics are some of the best I have seen for the time of release. Well deserving of 1st place!

Honourable Mentions

While not all series made it on here, others have to be commended on different factors that they are good in. Here are the ones that I think deserve an honourable mention.

Graphics: Shakugan no Shana
This series really has excellent graphics overall. The graphics are very clear and definitely some of the best I have seen in anime for ages.

Storyline: Spirited Away
Who could forget the classic Spirited Away, this is the best storyline I have seen that rivals most of the ones I have seen in any anime. I remember this year doing a unit for Japanese classes and I added this bit into it!

Sound: Final Fantasy: Advent Children
You would be hard pressed to find an anime that rivals the sound quality on this OVA. It works well with the theme and well deserving of this award.
Ending Theme: Chokotto Sister – Nekonyan Dance
All I can say is that it is a perfect ending with great animation!

Opening Theme: Otogi-Jushi Akazukin
This OP was a catchy opening that has nice and simple animation that still looks effective!

I have tried to recover this thread as much as possible. Sorry for the ugliness!
